yesterday
did anyone read that nymag james franco thing on the tumblr rader (whatever that thing is) yesterday? like ok
the person what posted it, like who’s tumblr it owned—did anyone notice how if you clicked that persons About page, it was like, the perfect description of the most useless job?? Like you’ve got this person whos tumblring, blogging, whatever, whos job is fucking.. “Information structuring” or something. I’m torn. How cool would it be to have some job thats so meaningless that your job is literally just sitting about on the internet blogging all day. ~otoh~ like how distasteful is a job like thats so transparently meaningless that can only exist in some american metropolis with a job description thats just a string of platitudes
But and like thats not the least of it!! I read that whole james franco article. I read it all, all 7 pages (although this was internet pages, like half a magazine page each, to be clear here). It painted a pretty nice picture of franco, ignoring that dumb “everything-ism” shit that appeared for literally 10 words and a heading that was the focus of the (aforementioned & shit) tumblr post, even if that pretty nice picture also suggested a pretty severe burning out somewhere in the future. but this dude, this journalist, wanted to talk about art and like queer theory and readin the article it was so clear, like it was so disheartening to read, maybe he just wasnt that smart or maybe he just like didnt know enough about it, where everything came off like wikipedia summary, it was so clear the dude just didn’t get it. for ex. dude tried to like tie in franco’s graduate/artist work into queer theory, tried to suggest like that franco was some one of kind, original ‘queer-artist’ and rather than like sticking to it, having some idea of this present in his thinking he just drops it, starts talking about how heterosexual he is, then moves on. so it wasnt really an interesting idea this guy had at all he just sort of stuck it out there and withdrew it and didn’t care about it at all and probably didnt even really think it through properly. he quotes some artist lady friend of franco’s whos clearly got some Ideas, but he quotes so sparsely I can’t even tell and fuck it i dont even care
so next year i’m going into like “modern aesthetics of music” @ uni and like the worst thing, the worst thing that I can imagine, is just my prof just readin’ my essays and thinking what I’ve been thinking about this dude what wrote this james franco article. and i know that like if I went back and read what i wrote last year I would think exactly that. fuck
